Hyde London City Hotel: Stylish Boutique Hotel in the City of London

Planning a trip to London and thinking about staying at Hyde London City? After spending a few days here on our very first visit to London, I can easily say this hotel ended up being one of the best parts of the trip.

Where Is Hyde London City Located?

One of the things that initially confused me while planning our trip to London was understanding the different areas of the city and what staying there would actually feel like.

Hyde London City is located within the historic City of London district, which is essentially London’s financial and business center.

If you’re unfamiliar with London like we were before visiting, this area is different from places like Soho, Covent Garden, or the West End.

Instead of nonstop nightlife and crowds everywhere, the City of London has a much more polished and professional atmosphere during the workweek.

Monday through Friday, the area becomes very energetic with commuters, office workers, and people constantly moving throughout the streets.

You definitely feel that financial district energy once the workweek starts.

What surprised us though, was how quiet and peaceful the area felt when we first arrived on a Sunday.

It almost felt like two completely different neighborhoods depending on the day.

Weekends were noticeably calmer, which honestly made it really nice to come back to after spending hours exploring busier tourist areas around the city.

And for a first-time visit to London, this location actually worked out perfectly.

We were close enough to major attractions to move around the city easily, but far enough away that we didn’t feel stuck in the middle of constant crowds and noise the entire time.

It felt much more relaxed compared to staying directly in Soho or some of the more tourist-heavy areas, while still being extremely well connected to everything we wanted to see.

Transportation & Convenience

One thing that quickly became apparent during our stay at Hyde London City was just how easy it was to get around the city from this location.

For a first-time visit to London, having convenient transportation nearby made a huge difference.

One of the biggest perks was having a bus stop literally right outside the hotel.

London’s bus system ended up being much easier and more affordable than we expected, and honestly, we used it quite a bit.

One of our favorite mornings started with a short walk over to St Paul’s Cathedral, where we spent some time exploring and taking photos before hopping on a bus toward Tower Bridge.

It was a super simple route and made sightseeing feel really efficient without needing taxis everywhere.

If you prefer using the London Underground, several stations are within about a 7 to 10 minute walk from the hotel, including access to the Central Line, which makes getting across London very straightforward.

The area itself was also extremely walkable. There were plenty of restaurants, cafes, and quick food options within a short distance, and overall, the neighborhood felt very safe and easy to navigate.

Even walking around later in the evening, we never personally felt uncomfortable or overly concerned about the phone snatching and pickpocketing stories you sometimes hear people talk about before visiting London.

Why We Booked Hyde London City

One of the biggest reasons we ended up booking Hyde London City was because it participates in the American Express Hotel Collection program, which added a surprising amount of value to the stay.

Since we booked using our AMEX Platinum benefits, we received a $300 statement credit on a qualifying stay, plus an additional $100 food and beverage credit to use at the hotel.

Breakfast was also included daily, which ended up being one of the highlights of the entire experience thanks to the restaurant Leydi.

When you factor all of that in, it dramatically changed the overall value proposition of staying here.

What would have otherwise been roughly a $700 stay ended up feeling much more reasonable once the credits and included perks were applied.

And in a city like London, where hotel prices can climb very quickly, Hyde London City felt like a really solid middle ground.

It delivered a boutique luxury atmosphere with stylish interiors, great service, and an excellent location, but without the ultra-premium pricing you’ll often find at some of London’s larger luxury properties.

For first-time visitors especially, I actually think this is a really smart option. You get a hotel that feels elevated and memorable without completely blowing the travel budget, while still staying centrally located enough to explore the city efficiently.

First Impressions, Check-In & Room Experience

After an overnight red-eye flight into London, we arrived at Hyde London City around 9 AM fully expecting to just drop our bags and wait several hours for check-in.

Instead, the staff gave us the option to immediately check into an available room, which honestly felt like a lifesaver after traveling overnight.

In full transparency, the room we were assigned was an accessible room, which normally wouldn’t have been our first choice, but at that point the ability to shower, relax, and reset immediately was absolutely worth it.

The staff throughout the entire stay were incredibly accommodating and efficient, and that first interaction really set the tone for the rest of the trip.

On the back end of the stay, they were equally flexible and allowed us to extend checkout all the way until 4 PM before heading to our next destination, which made the travel day significantly easier.

As for the room itself, it fit perfectly with the overall boutique feel of the hotel.

Everything felt stylish, modern, and very well-maintained without giving off that generic chain hotel atmosphere.

The design leaned more toward trendy boutique luxury rather than traditional corporate business hotel, which matched the vibe of the property really well.

One thing that immediately stood out was the size of the room.

For central London, it actually felt surprisingly spacious.

I’d probably compare it to being slightly larger than what you’d typically expect from a similarly priced hotel room in New York City, which was definitely appreciated once we started unpacking and settling in.

The room itself was very functional with a comfortable bed, quality linens, thoughtful lighting, and a well-stocked setup overall.

Even with the accessible layout, everything still felt clean, polished, and easy to navigate.

The bathroom was also nicely done by London standards. It felt modern, clean, and practical with quality toiletries and enough space to comfortably get ready without feeling cramped, which can definitely happen in some older city hotels.

Overall, the room struck a really nice balance between style, comfort, and functionality.

Breakfast at Leydi Was One of the Best Parts of the Stay

The on-site restaurant, Leydi, ended up being one of the biggest surprises of our stay at Hyde London City.

The restaurant has a stylish Turkish-inspired concept that feels upscale and modern without being overly formal, and after eating there the first morning, we immediately understood why people speak so highly of it.

One thing I really appreciated was that breakfast wasn’t just some generic continental buffet setup.

Instead, breakfast included a full entrée each morning along with unlimited coffees, cappuccinos, and fresh juices, which honestly made it feel much more elevated than what many hotels typically offer.

The food itself was fantastic. The first morning I ordered the brioche French toast, which was rich, soft, and honestly exactly what I wanted after a long travel day.

The second morning I decided to try the Turkish eggs, which was something completely new for me, and they ended up being equally impressive.

That was actually one of my favorite parts about eating here in general — getting introduced to some Turkish-inspired breakfast flavors that I normally wouldn’t order back home.

Even though we only had time to experience breakfast during our short stay, I definitely would have liked to return for dinner because the quality across the board was excellent.

The service at Leydi also deserves a mention. The staff were consistently prompt, attentive, and accommodating throughout the mornings, and it became one of those places we genuinely looked forward to starting the day at before heading back out to explore London.

Exploring London From Hyde London City

One of the biggest advantages of staying at Hyde London City was how easy it made sightseeing around London, especially for a first-time visit.

Here’s basically how one of our favorite sightseeing days went:

• Walked about 5–7 minutes to St Paul’s Cathedral
• Spent some time exploring the area and taking photos
• Hopped on a nearby bus directly toward Tower Bridge
• Walked across the bridge and explored both sides of the river
• Easily accessed nearby attractions like The Shard and the surrounding waterfront areas

One thing that really stood out was finally seeing these landmarks in person for the first time. Tower Bridge especially feels surreal when you’re actually standing there because it’s something most people have seen in movies, TV, or photos their entire lives.
